A Strong Economy
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for a robust and diverse local economy. I am focused on making the City the destination of choice for economic investment by attracting and retaining businesses of all sizes, protecting our light-industrial lands, and easing the process of doing business by streamlining processes.
Since being elected Mayor we have:
- Created the Lower Lonsdale Brewery District.
- Supported businesses during COVID-19 through the Open Streets Action Plan.
- Renewed the Lower Lonsdale Business Improvement Association for an additional 8 years.
- Introduced Retail Cannabis.
- Convened the Mayor’s Business Advisory Task Force: Business Roundtables Final Report Key Recommendations which includes an updated Economic Investment Strategy which is in progress. Three key areas include Health Economic Hub, expansion of Arts, Culture and Tourism; and expanding technology.
- Implemented Gateway: Client Services Center and Online Services to streamline licences, planning and permits.
- Supported the development of a new Central Lonsdale BIA.
- City selected to host Rogers Hometown Hockey.
