Housing

Access to affordable and adequate housing is a right we all share. But we know not everyone in our community is well housed, and we know there is more work to do. That’s why I’m committed to continue partnering with stakeholders, senior levels of government, and others to deliver housing that meets the needs of families, youth, and seniors who call our city home – or hope to.
Since being elected Mayor we have:
- Delivered hundreds of new housing – affordable, supportive housing, rental housing, and market housing. Including Senior’s Safe House and SAFER units
- Delivered 89 below-market rental homes through the completion of Phase 1 of the North Shore Neighbourhood House Hub Development
- Delivered a new family respite centre – financed and operated by CareBC providing support to seniors and families
- Advanced North Shore Neighbourhood House Phase 2 Hub Development, including a mass timber building with 179 rental homes, 30% below-market, and a new North Shore Neighbourhood House – these phases represent the single largest investment in non-market housing in a generation on public lands
- Secured $18.6 M in federal funding to support and modernize housing policies to speed up delivery, expand affordability and invest in infrastructure
- Updated the Mid-Market Rental Policy to improve eligibility criteria, a fair and transparent tenant selection process
- Advanced the Development Application Process Review to improve the development approvals process from end to end
- Responded to provincial housing legislation
- Enabled more ground-oriented and missing-middle housing
- Adopted the new Housing Needs Report – planning for current and future housing needs
- Championed new home financing opportunities for first-time buyers such as rent-to-own homes
- Strengthened the City’s Residential Tenant Displacement Policy
- Advanced work on supporting residents during extreme heat events in multifamily buildings
- Convened North Shore Homelessness Action Initiative, an assembly of North Shore officials with a mutual commitment to enhance the coordination and action to prevent and alleviate homelessness in our communities
