City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan Announces Re-Election Bid,
Focuses on Putting People First
CITY OF NORTH VANCOUVER – Mayor Linda Buchanan launched her re-election campaign Tuesday night surrounded by supporters from across the community. Buchanan shared her vision for the City of North Vancouver, citing housing, transportation, child care, and a strong local economic recovery from the pandemic as her continued priority areas of action.
“The past two years have been challenging for our community,” said Buchanan. “But we’re stronger now because we’ve always put people first. Undoubtedly there will be more challenges as we move forward. My focus as Mayor in the four years to come will continue to be putting people front and centre as we create a better community for everyone.”
Buchanan kicked off her campaign at Chop and Chew, a local restaurant on Lonsdale Avenue. She was joined by energized supporters, including members of City Council past and present. In 2018 Buchanan was elected Mayor for the first time after serving two terms as a City Councillor.
Buchanan has successfully spearheaded the inclusion of rapid transit to the North Shore in TransLink’s upcoming 10-year Vision. Under her leadership, the City of North Vancouver has delivered housing that supports young people, families, and seniors. Buchanan has also prioritized strengthening support for renters and approving new options such as ‘rent-to-own’ housing for first-time home buyers.
In addition, Buchanan is proud of the measures put in place to support local businesses such as the Open Streets Action Plan and alcohol consumption in select local parks.
“I’m proud of what we’ve done to support our residents and the business community who have been stretched to the limit these last four years,” added Buchanan. “But I’m just getting started.
There is more to do to advance the City as a dynamic, healthy, and prosperous community for all.”
