City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan Announces Re-Election Bid
CITY OF NORTH VANCOUVER – City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan has officially launched her re-election campaign and is seeking a third term as Mayor, highlighting a proven record of delivering major infrastructure, advancing housing, and standing up for taxpayers on critical regional issues.
“Over the past eight years, I’ve been focused on delivering real results for people,” said Buchanan. “The completion of the new Harry Jerome Community Recreation Centre and Silver Harbour Seniors’ Activity Centre that will open this July, advancing hundreds of new homes, securing new childcare spaces, and supporting local businesses big and small are amongst the accomplishments I’m most proud of.
”I’m running for a third term because although a lot has been accomplished, there’s more work to do and I have the experience to keep delivering for this community.”
Buchanan was first elected Mayor in 2018 after serving two terms on Council. During her time as Mayor, the City has advanced major projects and priorities including:
● Breaking ground on the New North Shore Neighbourhood House, years ahead of schedule, which will include expanded child care and 179 rental homes (30% below market).
● Delivering 89 non-market rental homes and a new respite care centre as part of Phase 1 of the North Shore Neighbourhood House redevelopment, supporting seniors, families, and caregivers with affordable housing and vital day and overnight care services.
● Opening Crosscut Bridge across Highway 1 improving the safe movement of people who actively move through the City.
● Securing bus rapid transit for the North Shore, with the R2 line extending to Metrotown in the interim, to strengthen connections between the North Shore, Vancouver and Burnaby.
● Strong advocacy for taxpayers, including calls for investment into public transit, a new Iron Worker’s Memorial Bridge, and a public inquiry into cost overruns at the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant.
● Advancing the innovative Harbour Swimming Deck project, a first-of-its-kind oceanfront swimming destination that will provide free, safe public access to Burrard Inlet.
● Delivering a new Mahon Park child care centre adding to the more than 350 plus childcare spaces since 2018, the most in any previous council term, including $3.5 M in before-and-after school care at the new Cloverley School.
● Opening two new parks with two more in process.
● Delivering a 2.9% tax rate (0.9% operating, 2% capital) – one of the lowest in the region
“Together, we have worked hard to build a caring, inclusive, and connected city by putting people and community first. That is more important today than ever. In challenging times, we need a city that makes life easier. I’ve led Council in focusing on what matters most – creating housing options, making it easier to get around and investing in the spaces that bring community together,” Buchanan added.
“We have been building a city that improves residents’ daily lives and supports them at every stage of life. And these investments are never just about infrastructure. They are about dignity, belonging, and quality of life. These are the values that have guided me over the past eight years — and the values I will continue to embrace.”
Looking ahead, Buchanan said her priorities for a third term include securing senior government funding for critical infrastructure, in particular rapid transit to the North Shore, advancing the Lonsdale Great Street project and Health Innovation District, planning for the ICBC site, and continuing to advocate for fair outcomes for North Shore residents on major regional projects.
“I will always stand up for this community,” she said. “Whether that’s fighting for better transit, more housing, or fairness for taxpayers. My commitment is simple: keep putting people first, and keep delivering the results our city needs.”
Civic election day in B.C. is Saturday, October 17, 2026.
